Service and Safety – the gifts HPD gives back to our community
What is Lights of Aloha?

Lights of Aloha is HPD’s holiday campaign focused on two priorities: service and safety.
From acts of giving back through our 12 Days of Service to impaired-driver checkpoints and fireworks enforcement, HPD is protecting both the spirit and safety of Oʻahu during the holidays. Lights of Aloha spotlights service, safety and responsible celebrations.
12 Days of Service
Over twelve days in December, HPD will spotlight community initiatives and partnerships that reflect the spirit of aloha. Activities will include:
Community Service Projects: Officers volunteering alongside local organizations to give back to neighborhoods.
Holiday Safety Messaging: Sharing reminders on impaired driving, fireworks, and traffic safety to help keep Oʻahu safe.
Watch the stories below.

Keeping our island safe starts with taking care of our people. This holiday season, HPD is partnering with the Hawaiʻi Food Bank to help put food on the tables for kūpuna and families in need.
HPD officers served our community in a special way by helping keiki shop for holiday gifts during our Heroes & Helpers event at Target Ala Moana yesterday. HPD Community Policing Teams host similar events throughout the holidays to connect with keiki and their families island wide.
District 4 officers teamed up with a local shelter in Kahaluʻu and the First Assembly of God to make the holidays brighter for keiki who need it most. #LightsOfAloha #HPD #WithAlohaWeServe
As part of our commitment to serving beyond enforcement, HPD’s Specialized Services Division officers and K9s spent the day teaching Hawai’i Baptist Academy students about safety, preparedness, and the heart of public service.
Sgt. Jon S. Ishikawa of HPD’s Traffic Division joined students at Kapolei High School for a mural unveiling event aimed at promoting traffic safety. Together, we’re keeping our community safe on the streets and in the classroom.
HPD’s P.A.L. and D.A.R.E. officers were honored to support the 127th annual holiday party for Family Programs Hawaiʻi. Sgt. Frank E. Everett and his team have volunteered for years, helping bring joy to more than 1,800 keiki.
Leading by example! HPD officers donated blood to support the Blood Bank of Hawai’i and patients in our community who need it most. Every drop counts, and every donation helps save lives!
Safety is the best gift this season. HPD officers hosted a pop-up event at ‘Aikahi Elementary to give keiki new bike helmets and lights, reinforcing safety and service to our community this holiday season. #LightsOfAloha #HPD
Officer Lauren Porter’s commitment to the P.A.L. Hula program has given countless keiki a place to learn, express themselves, and build community through culture. Mahalo to her and our many P.A.L. officers and volunteers who give their time and heart to our keiki. 🌺#LightsOfAloha #HPD
Spreading the aloha spirit with our shelter friends at the Hawaiian Humane Society. HPD officers delivered much-needed donations to support animals in need this season. #LightsOfAloha #HPD
Seagull preschoolers had a merry time exploring the holiday magic during their Christmas decoration walkthrough at our main station. #LightsOfAloha #HPD
✨ Lighting up the holidays for our kūpuna. District 1 officers delivered personalized wish list gifts, sharing warmth, connection, and care with residents at Kukui Gardens. #LightsOfAloha #HPD
