Welcome to the October 2008, edition of Inside HPD. October is National Crime Prevention Month. Crime prevention is a community wide effort, no one agency or organization can do it alone, it is everyone's business. In 1984, the National Crime Prevention Council, the nation's focal point for preventing crime, designated October as Crime Prevention Month.

Crime prevention month is an opportune time for citizens to carefully consider what they personally can do to help prevent and fight crime in their community, and to pay tribute to the many individuals who have already taken personal responsibility for their neighborhoods, and community organizations that work for the common good.

The celebration of Crime Prevention Month includes the recognition of  businesses, government agencies, and citizens who are working together to create safer communities. What can each of us do?  Work with law enforcement officials, people working together can prevent and solve many crimes. Notify the police of suspicious activities. Start neighborhood crime watches and patrols. And when a criminal is caught press charges, this helps protect others.
