Ask HPD: Parking on "Unimproved" Sidewalks
Q: When is it OK to park on a grassy sidewalk? Also, is it OK to park on asphalt sidewalks?
A: The sidewalk area is defined as the area between the paved roadway and the abutting property line; basically, the area intended for pedestrian and public utility use. If this area is grassy or paved, it is still considered a sidewalk and it is not intended for parking. Vehicles should not park there. If you have questions regarding a specific area in your neighborhood, you can call 911 and an officer will be sent to your location to make an assessment. Violators could face a $35 fine.
