Sign Up for Smart911

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is encouraging residents to sign up for a free public safety service that can shorten emergency personnel response time and save lives.

Smart911 enables Oahu residents to create a 911 safety profile for their household. The profile contains information for first responders to have in the event of an emergency. When a registered user calls 9-1-1, the information in his or her safety profile is automatically displayed to the 9-1-1 call taker. This information can be quickly passed along to emergency personnel responding to the scene.

To sign up, users can create an online safety profile on the Smart911 website. They can input household members' health information such as medical conditions, disabilities and allergies. They can also include family members' photographs and pet information. Profiles are stored in a Smart911 database with multiple security features and will only be used in the event of an emergency.

“In addition to providing first responders with your medical history and emergency contacts, Smart911 can also assist with identifying your location. This is especially important if you’re unable to talk or don’t know where you are,” said Capt. Bradon Ogata of the HPD’s Communications Division.
