HPD makes first arrest under new state laws

08/21/2014

A Waikiki man was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of soliciting a minor for prostitution. Bail for the two felonies is set at $25,000. He is the first person in the state to be arrested and charged under Act 247, which was passed during the 2013 Legislative Session.

The suspect is also accused of five counts of promoting minor-produced sexual images in the first degree. He is the first person in the state to be arrested under Hawaii Revised Statutes 712-1215.5, which passed during the 2012 Legislative Session.

Earlier this month the 28-year-old suspect began communicating with a 16-year-old girl in Kapolei by cell phone. The suspect and victim texted each other back and forth, during which time the girl informed the suspect of her age. The suspect encouraged the teen to send him nude photos of herself which she did.
