On August 31, 2020, at about 2:30 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred on Kapahulu Avenue in the Waikiki area.
On August 31, 2020, at about 2:30 AM, a 59-year-old male moped operator was traveling eastbound on Kalakaua Avenue when he turned northbound onto Kalakaua Avenue at a high rate of speed. The 59-year-old male lost control and veered into the curb and was ejected from the moped into a light pole.
The 59-year-old male was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 59-year-old male was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
