On July 23, 2024, at about 8:25 P.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a moped occurred on North School Street, west of Makuahine Street, in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 58-year-old male motorist was traveling eastbound on North School Street when he attempted to make a left turn, and collided into a 61-year-old female moped operator, who was traveling westbound on North School Street.
As a result of the collision, the 61-year-old female moped operator was ejected onto the roadway and was subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 58-year-old male motorist remained on the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
The 61-year-old female moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
