On July 28, 2024, at about 4:38 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck occurred on Kamehameha Highway, North of Paalaa Uka Pupukea Road, in the Wahiawa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 21-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway when he crossed over the center line into on-coming traffic and collided into a 57-year-old male motorist. The 57-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway when the collision occurred.
As a result of the collision, the 21-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the grass shoulder and was subsequently transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 57-year-old male motorist remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
The 21-year-old male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time speed appears to be a factor in the collision. It is unknown if drugs, and alcohol are contributing factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
