On August 29, 2024, at about 8:00 PM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist occurred in the area of Hookui Street and Puowaina Drive in the Punchbowl area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 47-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Hookui Street, near Puowaina Drive, when he traveled off the roadway onto the grass shoulder and down a steep embankment, where he came to rest.
As a result of the collision, the 47-year-old male motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 47-year-old male motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a contributing factor. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 28th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year as compared to 38 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
