On August 30, 2024, at about 10:45 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles occurred on Franklin D. Roosevelt Avenue near Essex Road, in the Kalaeloa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department that a 42-year-old male motorist was traveling northbound on Franklin D. Roosevelt Avenue when he traveled into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a 21-year-old male motorist.
As a result of the collision the 42-year-old male motorist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition, and the 21-year-old male motorist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
The 42-year-old male motorist was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time alcohol appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown at this time if speed was a contributing factor to this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
