On October 11, 2024, at about 4:30 PM, a fatal non traffic pedestrian motor vehicle collision occurred in the private parking area of the Kaiser Medical Center in the Moanalua area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 51-year-old female motorist was exiting out of the Kaiser Medical Center parking structure and attempted to make a left turn to exit the property.
While making the left turn, the 51-year-old female motorist collided with a 75-year-old female pedestrian who walked into the path of travel of the 51-year-old female motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 75-year-old female pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The 51-year-old female motorist remained on scene and was not injured.
Speed, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
In the area of the collision, there were no crosswalks for pedestrian traffic.
This is the 2nd Non Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 2 at this same time in 2023.
The investigation is ongoing.
