On January 18, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 68-year-old male involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 53rd Traffic Fatality of 2024 as compared to 55 at the same time in 2023.
The investigation remains on-going.

On December 16, 2024, at about 3:00 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving an electric bicycle occurred on Waialae Avenue near Kapiolani Boulevard in the Kaimuki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 38-year-old male motorist and his juvenile passenger were traveling westbound on Waialae Avenue when they collided with a 68-year-old male operating an electric bicycle, who attempted to cross Waialae Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 68-year-old male was ejected onto the roadway.
The 68-year-old male was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 68-year-old male was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 38-year-old male and his juvenile passenger were not injured as a result of the collision
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
