On January 11, 2025, at about 7:00 PM, a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Kuhio Avenue near Namahana Street, in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 53-year-old Transit Bus operator had serviced a bus stop and began traveling westbound on Kuhio Avenue.
As the Transit Bus was traversing westbound on Kuhio Avenue a 74-year-old female pedestrian attempted to run towards the bus from behind alongside the adjacent sidewalk when she fell from the curb onto the roadway and the rear tire of the Transit Bus ran over a limb.
As a result of the collision, the 74-year-old female pedestrian was taken by Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
