On the evening of July 23, 1997, 51-year-old Myron K. Nakao was discovered unresponsive on the sidewalk area of Makaloa Street, near Amana Street. Nakao had been beaten and was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died. He had last been seen earlier that evening at a bar in the Keeaumoku area.
