On the morning of March 21, 2005, 54-year-old Owen Hamada was found unresponsive in a restroom at Waikele Community Park. Investigation revealed that Hamada, who would regularly sleep in the restroom overnight, was beaten to death. He was last seen alive the previous night at the Waikele McDonald’s. Hamada, originally from Hilo, Hawaii, was a self-employed roofing contractor. He frequented the Waikele Shopping Center, and would often be seen at various stores and restaurants in the area.
