The District 4 Community Policing Team (CPT) covers the area between Waimanalo to Kahuku and aims to build strong relationships and partnerships within these communities. The CPT provides many services including:

• Keiki and Kupuna Identification Programs
• “Say Hi” Program
• Community Traffic Awareness Program (CTAP) Sign waving
• Personal Safety/Stranger Danger/Cyber Bullying/Senior/Children/Home Presentations
• Bicycle/Pedestrian Traffic/Active Shooter Presentations
• Career Day/School/Community Fun Fairs
• National Night Out
• District 4 Station Tours

Safety Tips to Remember

SHOPPING DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

• Shop during the daytime when possible. If shopping at night, go with a family member or friend.
• Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
• If your credit card is lost or stolen, notify your credit card issuer immediately.
• Beware of any strangers approaching you for any reason. Criminals may try different methods to distract you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.
• Park in well-lit areas.
• Place personal bags or purses into your vehicle (prior to placing purchased items or groceries away) to prevent any personal identification from being stolen.

Home:

• When leaving your home for an extended time, have a family member or neighbor check on your house and pick up your newspaper and mail.
• Holiday gifts should not be placed near windows or doors in your home. Burglars might see it as an opportunity to break in.
• Beware that criminals can pose as couriers delivering gifts.
• Beware that criminals go door-to-door soliciting donations for charities.
• Always turn off Christmas lights when leaving the house or going to bed.
• Keep doors locked at all times.
• Indoor and outdoor lights should be on an automatic timer.

Pedestrian:

• Always cross within marked crosswalks or at street corners.
• Look left, right, and left again for vehicle traffic before stepping onto the roadway. Continue to look for oncoming vehicles while crossing.
• Yield to approaching vehicles while crossing, even if you have the right of way.
• Make eye contact with drivers to ensure that they see you.
• Be especially careful of vehicles that are turning at intersections. Drivers may be looking out for other vehicles instead of pedestrians.
• If buses or other large vehicles are blocking your view, wait for them to pass before crossing.
• Walk on the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, walk on the left side of the roadway so you can see oncoming traffic.
