On April 30, 2024, at about 05:47 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving an electric bicycle occurred in the area of Kamehameha Highway and Waikalani Drive in the Mililani area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 43-year-old male motorist was traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway when he struck a 75-year-old male electric bicycle rider who was also traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway.
As a result of the collision, the 75-year-old male electric bicycle rider was ejected onto the roadway.
The 75-year-old male electric bicycle rider was taken by EMS to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 75-year-old male e-bike rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 43-year-old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene of this collision.
Neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
