On October 2, 2023, at about 2:20 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist occurred on Dole Street in the University Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an 19-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound in the left lane of Dole Street when he collided with an 18-year-old female bicyclist who was also traveling westbound on Dole Street and turned from the right lane into the path of the 19-year-old motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 18-year old female bicyclist was transported from the scene to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 18-year old female bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 19-year old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene of the collision.
At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
