On May 5, 2023, at about 8:20 PM, a critical hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on the H-3 Freeway westbound in the Kaneohe area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a motorist, who has yet to be identified, was traveling westbound in the left lane of the H-3 Freeway, and collided with a 20-year-old adult female pedestrian who was standing in the left shoulder lane checking a stalled motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, the 20-year-old female pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.

The unknown motorist continued traveling westbound on the H-3 Freeway without stopping to render aid or provide information, possibly driving a black sedan or sports car. 

At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs, or alcohol are contributing factors.
