On February 23, 2024, at about 7:30 PM, a critical hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred on Waiakamilo Road in the Kalihi Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a motorist, who has yet to be identified, was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Waiakamilo Road when it collided into a 36-year-old male pedestrian, who was crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk, against the illuminated “Do Not Walk” signal.
The unidentified motorist briefly stopped before continuing to travel southbound on Waiakamilo Road without rendering aid or providing information. The unidentified motorist was possibly driving a blue Honda multipurpose vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the 36-year-old male pedestrian was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are contributing factors.
