On July 15, 2024, the Vehicular Homicide Section was informed by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the 54-year old male involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 20th Traffic Fatality of 2024 as compared to 28 at the same time in 2023.

On July 14, 2024 at about 9:00 PM, a critical hit and run motor vehicle collision involving bicyclist occurred on Farrington Highway in the Maili area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 54-year old male bicyclist, was crossing Farrington Highway heading Mauka bound, when it was struck by an unidentified westbound motorist.
The unidentified motorist continued traveling westbound on Farrington Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information.
As a result of the collision, the 54-year old male bicyclist was ejected onto the asphalt roadway and was unresponsive. The 54-year old male bicyclist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time, it is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol are factors in this collision.
