On October 11, 2024, at approximately 6:47 PM, a critical hit-and-run motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of Farrington Highway and Princess Kahanu Avenue in the Nanakuli area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 75-year-old female operating an Electric Mobility Device was traveling alongside Farrington Highway when it entered the roadway and traveled across the westbound lanes of Farrington Highway. As the 75-year-old female operating the Electric Mobility Device entered into the eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway, she was struck by an unknown motorist who was traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway at a high rate of speed. .
The 75-year-old female operating the Electric Mobility Device was then struck in a secondary collision by a 69-year-old male motorist, which was traveling eastbound directly behind the unknown motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 75-year-old female was ejected onto the roadway and was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The unknown motorist fled the scene, traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway without stopping to render aid or provide information, and at this time, has yet to be identified. The unknown motorist was possibly driving a white Chevrolet Silverado.
The 69-year-old male motorist remained at the scene. The 69-year-old male motorist and his 55-year-old female passenger were not injured.
The 75-year-old female operating the Electric Mobility Device was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
