On May 26, 2024, at about 06:30 AM, a serious motor vehicle collision involving a moped and a pick up truck occurred at the intersection of Ft. Weaver Road and Renton Road in the Ewa Beach area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 77-year-old male moped rider was traveling northbound on the shoulder of Ft. Weaver Road and crossed the intersection of Renton Road where he was struck by a pick up truck. The pick up truck, driven by a 29-year-old male was traveling eastbound on Renton Road and crossing Ft. Weaver Road with the green light illuminated. The moped rider was ejected onto the roadway and sustained critical injuries.
As a result of the collision, the 77-year-old male moped rider was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition. The 29-year-old male driver and 23-year-old male passenger remained on scene and were not injured.
The 77-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time, speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors in this collision.
