On January 24, 2023, at about 12:45 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred in the area of Kamehameha Highway and Salt Lake Boulevard in the Aiea area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 31-year-old motorist was traveling southbound on Salt Lake Boulevard, attempting to turn left onto Kamehameha Highway.
As the 31-year-old motorist made the turn onto Kamehameha Highway, he was broadsided by a juvenile male moped operator and his passenger, a second juvenile male who disregarded the displayed red traffic signal.
As a result of the collision, both juvenile males were ejected onto the roadway.
Both juvenile males were taken to an area hospital, one in critical condition and the other in serious condition.
Neither the juvenile male moped operator nor the juvenile male passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the collision.
The 31-year-old motorist was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
