On August 9, 2024, at about 11:15 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a motor vehicle and a moped, occurred on Ward Avenue near the intersection of Kawaiahao Street in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 25-year-old male motorist and his 54-year-old male passenger was traveling southbound on Ward Avenue and attempted to execute a left turn onto Kawaiahao Street when he collided with a 43-year-old male moped rider who was traveling northbound on Ward Avenue.
As a result of the collision, the 43-year-old male moped rider was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 43-year-old male moped rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 25-year-old male motorists and 54-year-old passenger remained at the scene and was not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed, alcohol, nor drugs appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
