On January 10, 2025, at about 04:45 AM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Nimitz Highway and Valkenburgh Street in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 55-year-old female motorist was traveling eastbound on Nimitz Highway when she collided with a 60-year-old female pedestrian was attempting to cross Nimitz Highway within a marked crosswalk.
As a result of the collision, the 60-year-old female pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 55-year-old female motorist was not injured and remained at the scene.
At this time speed may possibly be a factor of this collision. Alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
On January 12, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 60-year-old female pedestrian involved in this collision had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 3rd Traffic Fatality of 2025 as compared to 1 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation remains on-going.
