On February 27, 2025, at about 4:00 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving an electric bicycle rider occurred at the intersection of Kauwili Street and Laupapa Street in the Ewa Beach area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a juvenile motorist was traveling eastbound on Laupapa Street as a juvenile electric bicycle rider was traveling westbound on Laupapa street. The juvenile electric bicycle rider attempted to make a left turn onto Kauwili Street, turning into the path of travel of the juvenile motorist and was struck.
As a result of the collision, the juvenile electric bicycle rider was ejected onto the roadway and transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The juvenile electrical bicycle rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The juvenile motorist as well as a juvenile passenger remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
