On March 21, 2025, at about 0841 hours, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a moped occurred on Waialae Avenue near Kapahulu Avenue in the Kaimuki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 56-year-old male moped operator was traveling eastbound on Waialae Avenue when it drifted into the adjacent eastbound lane and collided with a 73-year-old female motorist.
As a result of the collision, the 56-year-old male moped operator was ejected onto the roadway.
The 56-year-old male operator was taken to an area hospital via EMS in critical condition.
The 56-year-old male moped operator was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 73-year-old female motorist was not injured.
At this time, speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors to this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
