On March 27, 2025, at about 0411 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on the H-1 Freeway near the Vineyard Street Off Ramp in the Honolulu area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 35-year-old male motorist and his passenger, a 25-year-old male, were traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway when he attempted to take the Vineyard Street off-ramp and collided with a 68-year-old male motorist and then into a guardrail.
As a result of the collision, the 68-year-old male motorist was redirected and collided with a cement wall before coming to final rest.
The 68-year-old male motorist would have to be extricated by the Honolulu Fire Department.
The 68-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital via EMS in critical condition.
The 25-year-old male passenger was taken to an area hospital via EMS in serious condition.
The 35-year-old male motorist was not injured and determined to be under the influence and subsequently arrested for Negligent Injury in the First Degree and Operating a Vehicle under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII).
At this time both speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision. Drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
