On March 30, 2025, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office that the 38-year-old male skateboarder involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 18th Traffic Fatality of 2025 as compared to 09 at the same time in 2024.
The investigation remains on-going.

On March 28, 2025, at about 7:53 A.M., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a skateboarder occurred at the intersection of Makakilo Drive and Palailai Street in the Makakilo area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 38-year-old male skateboarder was traveling southbound on Makakilo Drive when he struck the vehicle of a 25-year-old female motorist who was at a stop in the southbound lanes of Makakilo Drive before Palailai Street.
As a result of the initial collision, the 38-year-old male skateboarder lost control and traveled into the intersection of Makakilo Drive and Palailai Street and was struck in a secondary collision by a 65-year-old male motorist who was traveling northbound on Makakilo Drive making a left turn from Makakilo Drive onto Palailai Street with the right of way.
As a result of the collision, the 38-year-old male skateboarder was ejected onto the roadway.
The 38-year-old male skateboarder was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 38-year-old male skateboarder was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 65-year-old male motorist and the 25-year-old female motorist remained at the scene and were not injured.
At this time, speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
