On April 2, 2025, at about 8:40 AM, a critical multi-vehicle collision occurred on Farrington Highway near Helelua Street in the Nanakuli area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an HPD officer was traveling westbound on Farrington Highway when a 73-year-old male motorist traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway attempted to make a left turn onto Helelua Street, crossing into the path of travel of the HPD officer and was struck.
As a result of the initial collision, the HPD officer’s vehicle was redirected into the eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway, where it collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle operated by a 31-year-old male motorist, who was traveling with a 30-year-old female passenger and a juvenile passenger.
Following this secondary collision, the 31-year-old male motorist’s vehicle then struck a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old male motorist before colliding with another vehicle driven by a 39-year-old female motorist, who had two juvenile passengers.
The HPD officer and the 30-year-old female passenger from the third vehicle were transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The juvenile passenger from the third vehicle was taken to an area hospital in good condition. No other injuries were reported.
The 30-year-old female passenger was later determined to be in critical condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
