On April 5, 2025, at about 0833 hours, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred in the Waialae area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicle Homicide Section, that a 77-year-old adult male motorist and his 71-year-old passenger were traveling westbound on the H-1 Freeway when the 77-year-old motorist attempted to exit off the H-1 Freeway onto the Old Waialae Avenue off-ramp and traveled off the roadway and collided with the concrete barrier.

The 77-year-old adult male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.  His 71-year-old adult female passenger was also taken to an area hospital in good condition.

At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
