On Saturday, January 14, 2023, at about 12:00 p.m., a critical motor vehicle collision involving a single motorist occurred in the Wahiawa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a 26-year-old female motorist was traveling westbound on Kaukonahua Road at a high rate of speed when for unknown reasons, she veered onto the right grass shoulder.
The 26-year-old female motorist then came back onto the roadway and traveled across the eastbound lane of traffic, and then left the roadway again, traveling onto the eastbound grass shoulder, then up a grass embankment and into the agricultural land of Ho Farms, where the vehicle overturned several times before coming to final rest.
As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old female motorist who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle.
The 26-year-old female motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
