On Friday, February 3, 2023, the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the 82 year old male motorist, involved in this collision had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

This is the 5th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 4 at this same time in 2022.

This investigation is on-going.

On Sunday, January 15, 2023, at approximately 0900 hours, a major motor vehicle collision occurred in the Waikiki area, involving three vehicles.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section that a silver Hyundai operated by a 82-year-old male, was traveling eastbound on Kalakaua Avenue when he rear-ended a Subaru operated by a 68-year-old female. The Subaru then rear-ended a white Honda operated by a 30-year-old female.

The operator of the Hyundai was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The operator of the Subaru and its passenger was treated at the scene. The operator of the Honda was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

Speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It was unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors.
