On Monday, January 16, 2023, at about 9:25 p.m., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred in the Hawaii Kai area, involving a single vehicle with a single occupant.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicle Homicide Section that a 17-year-old juvenile female, was traveling southbound on Lunalilo Home Road at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle at which time it collided with a tree in the center median, veered right and collided with a sign on the sidewalk on the right of the roadway.

As a result of the collision, the 17-year-old juvenile female was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

At this time speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors in this collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
