On February 9, 2022, at about 7:00 pm, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred in the Waimanalo area. 

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 68-year-old male motorist was traveling westbound on Kalanianaole Highway at a low rate of speed when for unknown reasons, he lost control and collided with a utility pole. The 68-year-old male motorist may have been suffering from a medical condition.

As a result of the collision, the 68-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the collision. 

The investigation is on going.
