On February 23, 2023, at about 7:13 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred in the Mililani area involving a moped and two vehicles.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that an adult male whose identity is yet to be determined, was operating a moped southbound on Kamehameha Highway. At about 7/10 of a mile south of Lanikuhana Avenue, the moped was rear-ended by a 32-year-old male motorist. As a result of the initial collision, a 39-year-old female motorist attempted to avoid the collision and veered off the roadway where it struck the operator of the moped.
The 32-year-old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene. The 39-year-old female motorist also remained at the scene and incurred minor injuries.
The operator of the moped was not wearing a helmet. He was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Speed, drugs, and alcohol did not appear to be factors in this collision.
This investigation is ongoing.
