On May 17, 2023, at about 2:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on Kamehameha Highway in the Haleiwa area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 69-year-old male motorist and his passenger, a 75-year-old male, were traveling northbound on Kamehameha Highway when the 69-year-old male motorist veered into oncoming traffic and sideswiped a vehicle traveling southbound on Kamehameha Highway.
The 69-year-old male motorist veered off onto the southbound shoulder and collided with a wooden utility pole. The 69-year-old male motorist may have been suffering from a medical condition.
As a result of the collision, the 69-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 75-year-old male passenger and the occupants of the vehicle that was struck were uninjured.
At this time, neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appeared to be contributing factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
