On June 12, 2023, at about 8:30 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on Kalanianaole Highway in the Hawaii Kai area.

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 22-year-old male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Kalanianaole Highway when the 22-year-old male motorcyclist traveled off the roadway and collided with the right shoulder guardrail.

The 22-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected over the guardrail and fell approximately 100 feet down a cliff. Honolulu Fire Department was able to retrieve the male.

As a result of the collision, the 22-year-old male was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The 22-year-old male was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

The investigation is ongoing.
