On June 20, 2023, at about 9:05 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of Farrington Highway and Pohakunui Avenue in the Nanakuli area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 23-year-old male motorist and eight (8) juvenile passengers were traveling eastbound on Farrington Highway when the 23-year-old motorist traveled off of the roadway onto the right shoulder and collided with a guardrail.
As a result of the initial collision, the 23-year-old male motorist traveled back onto the roadway and then veered off the roadway again, traveling onto the right shoulder, where the vehicle overturned upon coming to final rest.
As a result of the collision, the 23-year-old male motorist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to serious condition.
The juvenile passengers from the vehicle were transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
Of the eight (8) juvenile passengers, one remained in serious condition, while the others were upgraded to good condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
The investigation is ongoing.
