On July 8, 2023, at about 2:35 AM, a critical hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a moped operator occurred on Kapiolani Boulevard in the Ala Moana area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 32-year-old female moped operator was traveling westbound on Kapiolani Boulevard when she was struck by a unknown motorist traveling eastbound making a left turn onto Keeaumoku Street. The unknown motorist has yet to be identified.
The unknown motorist continued northbound on Keeaumoku Street, fleeing the scene of the collision. A witness described the fleeing vehicle as a white pickup with possible damages to the front and the passenger front fender area.
As a result of the collision, the 32-year-old female who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
At this time it is unknown if either speed, drugs, or alcohol were contributing factors of this collision.
