On August 4, 2023, at about 9:00 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving two vehicles and a motorcycle, occurred on the H-1 East Freeway in the Kahala area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 22-year-old adult male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on the H-1 Freeway, at a high rate of speed, when he lost control and sideswiped a 40-year-old adult female motorist. The male motorcyclist then traveled into the adjacent lane and collided into a 21-year-old adult female motorist.
As a result, the 22-year-old male motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway into the path of travel of the 21-year-old female motorist where the male motorcyclist was run over by the 21-year-old female motorist.
The 22-year-old male motorcyclist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 22-year-old male motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 40-year-old and the 21-year-old female motorists remained at the scene and were not injured as a result of the collision.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol is a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
