On September 16, 2023, at about 7:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision, involving two vehicles and a motorcyclist occurred on Kaukonahua Road in the Waialua Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 21-year-old adult male motorist was traveling southbound on Kaukonahua Road, when he collided into a 18-year-old adult female motorcyclist. The 21-year-old adult male motorist then fled the scene.
As the 21-year-old adult male motorist fled the scene, it traveled in the northbound lane of Kaukonahua Road attempting to overtake southbound traffic when he collided with a 20-year-old adult male motorist, and then collided with the guardrail.
As a result of the collision, the 18-year-old adult female motorcyclist was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 18-year-old adult female motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Both the 21-year-old adult male motorist and the 20-year-old adult male motorist as well as his 23-year-old adult female passenger was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol is a contributing factor.
