**UPDATE**
On October 27, 2023, at about 9:20 PM, the Vehicular Homicide Section was informed by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the 54-year old male passenger had succumbed to his injuries and died.
This is the 44th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 38 at the same time in 2022.
This investigation remains on-going.
**ORIGINAL**
On October 4, 2023, at about 10:50 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on North School Street in the Kalihi Area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 49-year-old male motorist and his passenger, a 54-year-old male, were traveling eastbound on North School Street when the 49-year-old male attempted to make a left turn into a private establishment and collided head-on into a 32-year-old male motorist who was traveling westbound on North School Street at a high rate of speed.
As a result of the collision, the 49-year-old male motorist and 32-year-old motorist were transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The 54-year-old passenger was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. While at the hospital, the 49-year-old motorist was downgraded to critical condition.
At this time, speed appears to be a contributing factor of this collision. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
