On November 6, 2023, at about 3:48 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving an e-bike rider occurred in the area of Kapahulu Avenue and Kuhio Avenue in the Waikiki area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 59-year old male e-bike rider was traveling eastbound on Kapahulu Avenue when he traveled into the westbound lanes of Kapahulu Avenue into the path of a 64-year old male motorist and was struck.
As a result of the collision, the 59-year-old male e-bike rider was ejected onto the roadway and into the path of travel of a 67-year-old female motorist, who was also traveling westbound on Kapahulu Avenue, when he was struck again in a secondary collision.
The 59-year old male e-bike rider was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 59-year old male e-bike rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 64-year-old male motorist and the 67-year old female motorist were not injured and both remained at the scene of this collision.
At this time speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
