On November 10, 2023, at about 8:12PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving an e-bike rider occurred at the intersection of McCully Street and Waiola Street in the McCully area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 31 year old male motorist was traveling southbound on McCully Street in the intersection of Waiola Street with the right of way, when it was broadsided by a 42 year old male e-bike rider, who was traveling westbound on Waiola Street, and ran the red light.
As a result of the collision, the 42 year old e-bike rider was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 42 year old male e-bike rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 31 year old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene of the collison.
At this time, speed, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors on behalf of the 31 year old male motorist. It appears that alcohol may be a contributing factor on behalf of the 42 year old male e-bike rider.
The investigation is ongoing.
