On November 13, 2023, at about 7:10 AM, a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in the area of Alaneo Street and North School Street in the Kalihi area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 83-year old female pedestrian who has yet to be identified was walking westbound on North School Street when she attempted to cross Alaneo Street and was struck by a 51-year old male motorist who was traveling eastbound on North School Street, making a left turn onto Alaneo Street.
At the time of the collision the 83-year old female was in a marked crosswalk.
The 51-year-old male motorist was not injured and remained at the scene of this collision.
The 83-year old female pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
At this time speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
This is the 50th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 46 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
