On December 4, 2023, at about 2:20 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist occurred in the area of Moua Street and Fricke Street in the Makaha area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a male bicyclist, who is yet to be identified, was traveling westbound on Mopu Street and, for unknown reasons, turned into the path of a 59-year-old female motorist, who was passing the bicyclist.
As a result of the collision the bicyclist was ejected onto the roadway
The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The 59-year-old female motorist was not injured and remained at the scene of this collision.
At this time speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
On December 5, 2023, at about 6:10PM, the Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section was informed by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the male bicyclist had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
This is the 55th Traffic Fatality on Oahu this year, as compared to 52 at the same time in 2022.
The investigation is ongoing.
