On February 8, 2024, at about 3:00 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of Kalanianaole Highway and Kealahou Street in the Hawaii Kai area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 63-year-old male motorist was driving erratic on Kalanianaole Highway near the parking area of Sandy Beach when the 63-year-old motorist lost control and traveled off of the roadway and collided with a wooden barrier.
As a result of the initial collision, the 63-year-old male motorist then traveled back onto Kalanianaole Highway crossing the east and westbound lanes and onto the grass shoulder before colliding with a chain link fence and then coming to final rest near a grass embankment.
The 63-year-old male motorist was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 63-year-old male motorist was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
At this time speed, drugs, and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
