On March 7, 2024, at about 1:30 PM, a critical motor vehicle collision involving a moped occurred in the area of Kalanianaole Highway and Paiko Drive in the Hawaii Kai area.
It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department, Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section, that a 25-year-old female moped operator was traveling eastbound on Kalanianaole Highway near Paiko Drive when for unknown reasons, the 25-year-old female lost control and drifted to the right when she collided with the raised curb.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old female was ejected onto the roadway. She was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The 25-year-old female was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
At this time neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors of this collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
